Tracing back to 1829, the hotel resulted from the transformation of an abortive all-girls school. Being one of the most prestigious hotels in Asia back in the date, the place had hosted a significant number of famous guests. The hotel went by various names before finally becoming Hotel Des Indes. Thus, having its anthem under the name invokes nostalgic memories when heard in the present day.
The hotel was a living witness of so many historic firsts. Hotel Des Indes was the first hotel to introduce the existence of ice cubes in Indonesia, serving the guests cold drinks on a tropical Christmas Eve. Moreover, the hotel took part in the country’s initial moments of freedom. Because so many members of the Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence (PPKI) stayed there back when the hotel was on Gajah Mada Street, it was decided to arrange the Proclamation text there. The creation of the text, however, took place elsewhere due to the curfew restrictions imposed at the time by the Japanese military government.
Going back to the modern era, Hotel Des Indes remains one of the oldest hotels in Asia but is now in a contemporary style. It is currently located in the prime area of Jakarta, Menteng, surrounded by numerous historical sites. While providing the comfort of modern hospitality, the antique structure of Hotel Des Indes reminds us of Batavia’s long history.
In celebration of the second anniversary, Hotel Des Indes Menteng – Jakarta held some enjoyable team-building outing activities. The outing session was split into two batches, in which both groups showed equally high enthusiasm. The Marclan team was elated to experience the lively energy.
“As Hotel Des Indes enters its second year, I believe the crew will be able to work in greater teamwork to serve the guests with even better hospitality going forward,” Irvan, the Hotel Manager of Hotel Des Indes, stated.
Hotel Des Indes Menteng – Jakarta just turned two, but we believe the Legacy of Batavia will continue for a while longer.
