Jakarta, Indonesia — 29th September 2023 is a special day for the classic hotel as they celebrate their 3rd anniversary. As Hotel Des Indes Menteng carries the legacy of Batavia in their hospitality, the whole family of the hotel is more than grateful as they commemorate another milestone.
The story begins in 1829 when Antoine Surleon Chaulan bought an unsuccessful all-girl school estate and turned it into a hotel named “Hotel de Provence”. Some years later, the hotel changed name to “Hotel Rotterdam” before settling with “Hotel Des Indes” in 1856, suggested by Douwes Dekker, a writer and a good patron of the hotel. Back in 1846, on Christmas Eve one month after the arrival of ice cubes in Indonesia, Hotel Des Indes became the first hotel to serve ice cubes and cold drinks to its guests.
Located in a stellar area of Jakarta, it is a popular hotel amongst business travelers who seek unique comfort and for those who simply desire a different serenity in modern era. The unique stories and heritage of Batavia flow elegantly, giving guests a remarkable experience, along with the utmost ingenuity of Indonesian hospitality. 3 years into its existence, the hotel has seen countless precious smiles from visitors celebrating both the simple everydays and the extraordinary moments in the heart of Jakarta.

The ceremony is also attended by Parna Raya Group, as the whole family celebrates together.
