Marclan International will open Marianna Resort in Lake Toba next year

Jakarta, 3 December 2021 Committed to establishing a new benchmark hotel collection that resets expectations and delivers rich experience, Marclan International is expanding its portfolio. The hospitality group will launch Marianna Resort in Lake Toba next year.

Marclan International is an asset owner and hospitality group founded in 2021. In addition to Marianna Resort, Marclan International also manages Sari Pacific Jakarta and Hotel Des Indes Menteng.

The hospitality group aspires to put Lake Toba, envisioned as the Monaco of Asia, back on the global map with the Marianna Resort. As the first international 5-star upscale resort in Lake Toba, the resort will offer meeting facilities with the largest ballroom in the area, modern private villas and a breath-taking infinity pool view. All rooms will be powered by Internet-of-things and designed to exclusively bring comfort while highlighting the vibrancy of the local culture. Guests will be invited to indulge in an array of unforgettable culinary experiences with a rooftop terrace offering 3600 views of the stunning natural surroundings.

Abhi Gurung, Executive Director of Marclan International, said: The presence of the Marianna Resort is more than just a combination of the tranquillity of Lake Toba and modernity. It reaffirms Marclan International’s commitment to developing local talent. Our goal is to have a diverse pipeline of great local talent for the future. Therefore, 40% of the workforce at Marianna Resort will be provided by locals, who can bring the culture to life. We could not be more excited to unveil this highly anticipated resort to Indonesia and the world.

With a combined three properties in the portfolio, Abhi is optimistic that the trajectory of Marclan International in the hospitality industry is heading in the right direction.

Although things are not 100% back to normal, we have noted that the occupancy rate of our hotels in Jakarta is improving compared to last year. Business travel has started, but leisure travel continues to dominate the recovery. I remain optimistic that post-pandemic recovery for the hospitality industry will pick up substantially in 2022, Abhi continued.

The Indonesian hospitality industry is among the hardest hit by the pandemic. According to Persatuan Hotel dan Restoran Indonesia (PHRI), over 2,000 hotels have been permanently closed. Matt Gebbie of Horwath HTL agrees with Abhi Gurung’s optimism for the market. Horwath HTL is the world’s largest and most experienced hospitality consulting brand.

Although still suffering, Jakarta’s hotels have seemingly turned a corner, with renewed optimism on the back of improved performance. Vaccination progress along with recent PPKM regulation changes has helped boost economic activity, which has, in turn, led to improved levels of corporate and government MICE demand in Jakarta. Onward and upward, Matt Gebbie explained.

Matt continued: With the right connections, the right price and access to finance, there is never a bad time to invest in existing hospitality assets. The key is quality over quantity for a new hospitality group. Pick prime assets in prime locations, such as Sari Pacific Jakarta and Hotel Des Indes Menteng, and renovate the property during a downswing to reap the benefits of the inevitable upswing. Marclan International’s decision to partner with an existing brand for its properties is also well-conceived.

Hospitality is all about people. In a marketplace based on reputation and guest review, a property with a unique character will have a competitive edge to gain in reach and exposure. While each Marclan Indonesia property is unique, all share the same goal of offering modern travellers everything they need for a comfortable, convenient and meaningful stay. For business or leisure, from the moment our guests step into our hotels, they feel right at home, Abhi ended.
